Moving Forward with Community Support

Policing in post-Ferguson America has resulted in a tumultuous landscape. Even with these challenges, the Seattle Police Department has embraced the philosophy that police officers are a part of, and not apart from, the community.

We have been outspoken against the militarization of police, and have taking time to explain the function and purpose of all the equipment we own and use.

We embraced modern policing principles, and emerged as national leaders in the collection and publication of police data.

In 2014, we redesigned our logo, uniforms and cars to showcase that our department was poised for the future, rather than holding on to the past.

During the course of my service, I established professional relationships with government partners in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Japan.

As a leader, I shared valuable insight into the best practices of my organization, taking advantage of speaking opportunities, both locally and abroad.
